▼ Belaboured business tycoon Vijay Mallya steps down as pharma major of Sanofi India   [03-25-16]

Mallya conveyed the decision not to seek re-election as director at the Annual General Meeting of the company. He had first joined in December 1973 as the director of Sanofi India Limited once known as Hoescht Pharma Ltd. He functioned as the board chairman since 1983.

58 year old Williams is the first American to make a 3 hour long duration flight to orbit and will break the US record set by Scott Kelly. Towards the close of the mission at the International Space Station, Williams will be the American with the most cumulative days in space- 534.

▼ 500th anniversary of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s coming to Vrindavan celebrated   [03-9-16]

To commemorate the “500th Anniversary of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s coming to Vrindavan”, Vrindavan Research Institute, Vrindavan has come up with a number of programmes with the financial support of Ministry of Culture. The celebration was marked on 25 November, 2015 on the day of Kartik Purnima, the day of Mahaprabhu’s coming to Vrindavan. Shri N.K. Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Culture will receive ‘Shri Chaitanya Prem Rath’ amidst chanting of Hare Krishna by a group of devotees followed by Nritya Natika.

▼ Professor Vishweshwara is Black Hole Man of India   [03-7-16]

77-year-old Bangaluru-based Professor Vishweshwara who is not only among the first in India to study black holes, but who has also made a very important calculation that was used in this discovery of gravity waves using the advanced LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory) detectors. Through the initial signal, the “chirp”, the steadily increasing frequency and amplitude of the gravitational waves indicates the inspiralling of two black holes and the ring down ( or the quasi-normal mode, QNM) indicates the newly created black hole after the merger. He is credited as the Black Hole Man of India.

Swedish Royal Court has announced that Crown Princess Victoria’s newly born son and second child will be referred to as Oscar Carl Olof. He will also be known as Duke of Skane and be third in line after mother and elder sister Princess Estelle. IN 1980, Sweden changed inheritance laws to allow eldest heir to inherit the throne regardless of whether it is a male or female heir.

Pratap Singh (1540-1597) was the ruler of Mewar, a north western Indian region in current day Rajasthan. His birth anniversary is celebrated on the 3rd day of the phase called Jyestha Shukla. Succeeded by his eldest son Amar Singh, Maharana Pratap Singh belonged to the Sisodia clan of Rajputs. His 475th birth anniversary was celebrated by University of Rajasthan and NMML along with Ministry of Culture, GoI. A day long conference on Maharana Pratap and his times will also be held on 3rd March 2016.
