▼ Civil aviation clears proposal for airport in national capital   [06-24-15]

The proposal, cleared by the Ministry, would soon be sent to the Cabinet for its approval. For the new project, the Government would be required to amend certain regulations as existing rules do not allow a second airport within a 150 kilometer radius of an existing one, unless the latter is functioning beyond its operational capacity. GMR Group, which operates the Indira Gandhi International Airport Ltd in New Delhi, would be preferred for developing the proposed airport.

Presently, users can change their operator while retaining the same number only in the same State or telecom circle. To avail of the new facility, subscribers will have to visit a store of their telecom operator or call the customer care number concerned. The deadline earlier was May 2nd to roll out full MNP was delayed by 2 months after the Cellular Operators Association of India asked for extension from Department of Telecom as telecom operators needed to make some technical changes to their networks to implement the service.

▼ Bihar, Rajasthan and TN told to provide free milk supply for Midday Meal Scheme   [06-21-15]

On 25 June 2015 Union Government requested the Chief Ministers of Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan to encourage supply of free milk in the Mid Day Meal to school children. The decision was made in a review meeting in which it was found that the State Milk Federations of these states have surplus stock of skimmed milk powder. At present, two states Karnataka (under project Ksheerabhagya started in 2012-13) and Madhya Pradesh provides free milk products to school children under the Mid Day Meal scheme.

▼ Europe directs police to block IS social media account   [06-20-15]

A recent US study found there were at least 46,000 accounts on Twitter linked to the militant group, many of which help to recruit new IS members. The European police agency “Europol” will now work with unnamed social media companies to track the accounts. They aim to get new accounts closed down within two hours of them being set up.

According to an annual report by the Boston Consulting Group, a global management consulting firm, the Asia Pacific, excluding Japan, held 47 trillion dollars in private wealth last year as the number of new millionaires rose in China and India. North America is the world's richest region with 51 trillion dollars, but is expected to be surpassed by Asia in 2016. Asia is also projected to hold 34 per cent of global wealth in 2019. As in both 2012 and 2013, Asia-Pacific, excluding Japan, remained the fastest growing region in 2014.

People using earphones while driving a vehicle or riding a cycle will be fined 135 Euro (214 US dollar) and lose three license points. However, use of phone while having the caller on loud speaker will be allowed.

The red-breasted “Robin” bird topped a poll of more than 200,000 people to choose the UK’s first national bird, winning a landslide victory. The bird received 34% of votes, followed by the barn owl, which received 12% and the blackbird, 11%.

These trains will have dynamic fare system and there will not be any downward movement of the fare. Depending upon the demand, these trains may be run during peak seasons like winter rush, summer rush, Dussehra rush, Holi rush and on other occasions. It said that only confirmed and RAC tickets will be issued for these trains and there will be no waiting list. No concession will be available on these trains.

These horse driven carriages are called as Victoria. The judgment was delivered by the Division Bench of Justices A S Oka and A K Menon on a petition by the Animals and Birds Charitable Trust. The petitioners contended that the horses were forced to overwork.

▼ Delhi Metro gets first driver-free train   [06-18-15]

Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) manufacturing these trains in India. The new generation train, which is a part of a 20-set consignment, will be suitable to eventually run on UTO (unattended train operation) mode. These trains are being procured through Hyundai Rotem, which manufactures them at its facility in Korea.

▼ Times Higher Education University Rankings rates 9 Indian institutions among top 100   [06-19-15]

India's progress has faltered and it has just nine top 100 universities, one fewer than last year. The IIT's of Roorkee, Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur and Madras, besides Aligarh Muslim University and Jawaharlal Nehru University figure among the top 100, though their rankings have come down from last year. According to the Times Higher Education Asia University Ranking 2015, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore comes closest at 37th place and Punjab University at 38th position, down six places from last year.

India is placed at third place among the BRICS countries, which has been topped by South Africa (36) followed by Brazil (46), China (71) and Russia (75). India with a score of 0.51 has been placed at 59th position among all countries.

The first 'Semi High Speed Train'of the country which runs at the speed of 160 KM per hour, started for Agra from Delhi at 11.15 Hrs. and reached its destination well within the stipulated time at 13.10 hrs taking less than two hours. It reached Agra ten minutes before its scheduled time of 13.20 hrs.
