▼ Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai’s 125th birth anniversary celebrated   [01-29-16]

PM Shri Narendra Modi has remembered Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai on his 125th birth anniversary. RBI has issued Rs. 150 and Rs. 10 coins for commemorating the birth anniversary of India’s constitutional experts. On the design details, the obverse of the coin will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend 'Satyamev Jayate' inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word 'Bharat' in Devnagri script. And on the right periphery with the word 'India' in English and it shall also bear the Rupee symbol and denominational value ’10’. Dr. Mahesh Sharma released the commemorative coins whereby the one of Rs 150 is made of Quaternary alloy with diameter of 44 mm and weight of 35 grams and the Circulation coin of Rs 10 is made of bi-metallic material with diameter of 27 mm and weight of 7.71 grams. Ministry of Culture has been celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai from 28th January 2015 to 28th January 2016.

President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has extended greetings to people of Australia on the eve of their National Day which is January 26, 2016. PM Narendra Modi also greeted the people of India on National Voter’s Day and Republic Day, both of which fell on this day. Himachal Pradesh’s Statehood Day was also celebrated on this day.

PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Sikkim Organic Festival 2016 and addressed the Plenary Session of the National Conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Farmers Welfare at Gangtok, Sikkim. The PM also launched three new Orchid species developed in Sikkim. He named two of the orchids- one after national icon Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the other after Jan Sangh leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay - Cymbidium Sardar and Lycaste Deendayal. Chamling named the third one after the Prime Minister, who thanked the Sikkim government for this honour. PM also digitally launched the logo of Sikkim Organic.

▼ Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel inaugurates the 28th edition of the International Kite Festival   [01-11-16]

Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel on 10th January 2016 inaugurated the 28th edition of the International Kite Festival in Ahmedabad. This boosts the kite making industry in Gujarat which has attracted numerous tourists across the year. The CM announced that the kite making business in Gujarat has grown from INR 100 crore to 700 crore within the next 10 years. Close to 98 kite flyers have entered the festival from 29 different countries apart from 55 from Indian states and 28 from Gujarat. The festival was also organised in other cities namely Botad, Porbandar, Mandvi, Surendranagar, Khambhat and Modhera.

President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 200th birth anniversary celebrations of Pandit Madan Mohan Tarkalankar at Nadia district, Bilwagram in WB on January 6, 2016. His historic contribution for spreading education among women and doing away with social stigma in 13th century Bengal are legendary. He authored the first Bengal Primary school text book in 3 volumes called Shishushiksha.

World Braille Day was observed on 4th January 2016 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Louis Braille. Day also helps people to produce works in Braille language for the visually challenged. Louis Braille was born in the 1800s and credited with developing the Braille script which helps visually impaired people to read as well as write.
