▼ Dr. M.M. Kalburgi, former Kannada University VC shot dead   [08-2-15]

He was shot dead by unidentified persons at his residence in Dharwad and rushed to the civil hospital, where he was declared dead. The 77 year old Kannada epigraphist and renowned scholar of vachana literature Kalburgi was awarded the Sahitya Akademi award, Nrupatunga Award and Pampa award for his contribution to Kannada literature.

Mrs Mukherjee was born on 17th of September 1940 in Jessore and got married to Mr Pranab Mukherjee in 1957. She was a vocalist of Rabindra Sangeet and founded the Geetanjali Troupe. She had also written two books Chokher Aloey and Chena Achenai Chin.

Salim was the first woman graduate of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). She had penned down many books including' Shorish-e-Dauran', 'Ham Saath Thhe','Parchhaiyon Ke Ujale' and ' Hardam Rawan Hai Zindagi'. She was sister of the legendary poet Israrul Haqu Mazaj and aunt of famous lyricist Javed Akhtar.

Om Prakash Munjal was known as the doyen of Indian cycle industry. He along with his three brothers Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Dayanand Mujnal and Satyanand Munjal, had started a bicycle spare parts business in Amritsar in 1944.
