Mangesh Keshav Padgaonkar, an iconic Marathi poet and Padma Bhushan recipient has passed away at the age of 86 on 30th December 2015. He was part of poetry recitation programs held in Maharashtra in the 1960s and 70s besides writing many Marathi films. He was 40 publications to his credit of which US Library of Congress acquired 31. He also received numerous awards including the Sahitya Akademi award, MP Literary Conference Award and Maharashtra State Award.

General Om Prakash Malhotra passed away on 29th December 2015 on account of old age. He passed away at the age of 93 and was the 13th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army from 1978 to 1981. Born in Srinagar Kashmir, he was an alumnus of Indian Military Academy Dehradun.

Kilmister had been suffering from numerous health issues and learned of his cancer diagnosis just two days before. He was known as an innovative frontman. Born in 1945, he is one of the most well known rock musicians of his age.

Johnson who is famous for writing the script for the first Star Trek episode, The Map Trap passed away at the age of 86 due to cancer. Born in 1929 in Wyoming, he debuted in the entertainment industry in the 1950s after penning an episode for Alfred Hitchcock presents. The author also co-wrote Logan’s Run with William F. Nolan.

He died at the age of 83. He was the first to propose measurement, one of the most neglected aspects of psychiatry.

Former CJI of Karnataka and Kerala HC Justice V. S. Malimath breathed his last at Bangalore on 22nd December 2015. He died at the age of 86 and is survived by a wife, 4 daughters and a son. Malimath was born on June 12, 1929 and was a diploma holder in international law and LLB from University of London. He was appointed as Advocate General and Judge of the Karnataka HC during 1968 and 1970 respectively. He also held posts as CAT chairman and member of NHRC.

Noted writer and theatre artist Chatla Sriramulu passed away on 18th December 2015 at Telangana following a brief illness at 84. He hailed from Vijaywada city. He was critical in the establishment of popular literary and cultural organisation Rasaranjani and awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1982. He was the first artiste from AP to receive an Emeritus fellowship from HRD, GoI.

Noodle Huda, veteran leader of the CPI-M of eastern India passed away on 17th December 2015 gayer a cardiac arrest in Kolkotta at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife and was member of the Central Committee of CPI-M for 30 years. He was also member of the Assam State Assembly from 1978 to 1983 and was imprisoned during the emergency.

Benedict Anderson, a scholar from Cornell university who was one of the most influential voices in the field of nationalism and Southeast Asia studies passed away in Indonesia on 13th December 2015 at the age of 79. He died in his sleep during a visit to the city of Malang. He is best known for his 1983 book entitled Imagined Communications: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism.

Well known economist, agriculturalist, journalist and farmer leader Sharad Joshi died at the age of 81. He was the founder of the Shetkari Sanghatana and hailed from Satara in Western Maharashtra. He worked with the Indian Postal Services and the UN before founding pan Maharashtra farmers organisation in 1979.

Koodiyattam and Nangiarkoothu exponent Margi Sathi passed away on December 1st at Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 50. She is survived by a daughter and a son. Considered as a doyenne of the Koodiyattam and Nangiarkoothu dance forms, an ancient temple art form, she was appointed as faculty at Kerala Kalamandalam where she taught the discipline. Sathi was a recipient of Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy award (2002), Kaladarpana award (2008) and Natyarathna Puraskaram (2008).

The Aussie footballer died on account of health issues on 29th November 2015. He was the first Australian to appear in the FA cup final during the 1950s. The Football Federation Australia had created the Joe Marston Medal, which is awarded to the best player in the A-League grand final, to honour him.
