▼ Population Division of UNDESA releases dataset   [01-15-16]

Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs/UNDESA on 12th January 2016 released the dataset titled Trends in International Migrant Stock: The Stock Revision. Compilation was released at the UNDESA HQ in NY, the USA. Dataset analysed trends in migration flows across the world even as the country and region wise between 2000 and 2015. India has the largest diaspora in the world in 2015 as 16 million people from India were living in the external parts of the country.

Nepal has been elected member of the UN Children’s Fund executive board representing the group of Asia Pacific states for 2016-2018. Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Durga Prasad Bhattarai has been elected as vice president to the Bureau of the Executive Board of UNICEF in 2016.

▼ Italian diplomat Filippo Grandi appointed UN High Commissioner for Refugees   [01-8-16]

Grandi is a 58 year old Italian diplomat who has worked in international affairs for the past 30 years, 27 of which were in the UN. He was previously the head of UN relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. He has also worked in the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan as the Deputy Special Representative. Guterres has been occupying the post since 2005.
