Being a fresher it is easy to have a fresh start with all the basic requirements in hand.

Following few basic steps could help the candidates to a good extent in cracking the UPSC examination:

1. Go through the advertisement carefully for the eligibility criteria.
2. Understand the UPSC exam pattern – the prelims, mains and interview
3. Read carefully and completely to know the UPSC syllabus.
4. Go through the previous years’ question papers to understand the trend.
5. Go through the quality books. No need to create a library, buy only essential books. Read newspaper regularly.
6. Get guidance from the articles from Internet.
7. Make your own study pattern and rely on your own studies. Keep coaching centres and their teaching just for guidance.
8. Prepare and prefer to revise from your own drafted notes.
9. General studies being a major trauma to the students, can be broadly classified under history, geography, general science, current affairs and general awareness.
10. Do work out on time management by practising question papers with time restrictions.
11. Don’t panic by advice and views of near and dear ones. Have confidence in yourself and go ahead in good spirit.
