I have got 5 years of work experience in sales field and now looking out for a switch over. How long should my resume be?

It would be better to limit the resume to one page with a 5 year working experience. A concise resume is all the way desired. 5 year experience can be very nicely incorporated in a single page. Restricting the resume to one page does not call for reduction in font size and margins. The resume should look professional, crisp and well portrayed.

Lead the resume with the career summary. Focus should be on the key selling points which are nothing but your skills. Resume should be well edited to fit the profile being applied for. Sell your credentials and leave back the vague past experiences which don’t carry any value to the current profile being applied for.

There is no hard and fast rule to shrink the matter to single page. In case the candidate has outstanding performance and achievements which could add value to the profile, they can definitely go to the second page and present their performance like ‘Key Leadership’ or ‘Major Achievements and Awards’ or ‘Project Management’ etc.
