Which is better - avoiding a break in career or preparing for civil services without disturbance?

I am an electrical engineering 2015 pass-out and cleared infosys interview soon after completion of course. But I didn’t join the organization to prepare for civil services. I am attempting the civil exam this year but don’t want to risk my career creating a huge career gap. In case I couldn’t pass through, should I concentrate another attempt for civil exams or start applying for more jobs?

Choosing the career should be individual’s priority. Career in Engineering and civils are equally good and have their own importance. It is good to give a try for civils with complete focus. Giving another attempt with or without joining a job would be individual interest.

If not making anymore attempt for civil services; candidate should be prepared to answer the interviewer by justifying the year’s gap, attempt to change the career field and re-orienting back to the engineering field within a year. Attempting the civils would be definitely a sufficient reply for the gap in the career. Again thinking and giving a civils try is acceptable as the same depends on interest of the individual. But, redirecting within a year may leave a scope for inefficiency or demotivation within the candidate. The interviewer may also hold a idea of the candidate being unstable in their decision. The reply should convince the interviewer the candidate’s firm decision of giving only a single attempt with complete concentration. The response should also assure of giving full attention to the job profile and work for the organization with dedication, once provided an opportunity.

The candidate need to be mentally prepared and plan whether to make any more attempts. If going to make more attempts with career gap, remember to have convincing response whenever going for job interview. In case the candidate want to attempt along with the job, the schedule should be well planned to have effective time management. The reply to the interviewer should be convincing enough that the candidate would provide his full potential to the organization.
