    - Maximum shear stress over a circular section is given as

    τ = (4/3) (S/A)

    here, S is the shear force and A is the area of circle

    But S/A is the average shear stress, therefore τ = (4/3) τavg

    τavg = (3/4) τ

    τavg = 0.75 τ

    Hence, the average shear stress in a beam of circular section is 0.75 times the maximum shear stress.
