    Max.shear stress=1.5 avg.shear stress
    Avg shed stress=50/1.5
    =33.33 N/mm2

    Shear stress: The stress which is parallel to the material surface, as opposed to normal stress when the stress is vertical to the surface.

    Given: Maximum shear stress (τmax) = 50 N/mm2

    Formula: τmax = (3/2) τavg

    Solution:

    τmax = (3/2) τavg

    Substituting the given values,

    50 = (3/2) τavg

    τavg = 33.33 N/mm2
