Q.  A flat belt pulley has centre distance between two pulleys as 1000 mm. If diameters of two pulleys are 600 mm and 300 mm, what is the length of belt?

    Given: Centre distance = 1000 mm, Diameter of driven pulley (D) = 600 mm, Diameter of driving pulley (d) = 300 mm

    Formula: Length of belt (L) = 2C + {[π ( D+ d)] / 2} + {D – d)2 / 4C}

    Substituting the given values we get,

    Length of belt (L) = 2C + {[π ( D+ d)] / 2} + {(D – d)2 / 4C}
    = (2 x 1000) + {[π (600 + 300)] / 2} + {(600 – 300)2 / 4 x 1000}
    Length of belt = 3436 mm
