    Given: Torque on gear shaft = 20 Nm, gear ratio = 4

    Formula: Torque transmitted on pinion shaft can be calculated using the formula of gear ratio (i) = Tg / Tp

    Gear ratio (i) = Tg / Tp = ni / no = do / di

    Speed or gear ratio is defined as the ratio of pinion speed to gear speed. It can also be defined as the ratio number of teeth on gear to number of teeth on pinion.

    Solution:

    Gear ratio (i) = Tg / Tp

    4 = 20 / Tp

    Tp = 5 Nm

    Torque transmitted on the pinion shaft is 5 Nm.
