Q.  The difference between the ages of two brothers is 8 years. If 12 years ago, the elder one was twice as old as his younger brother, what is the present age of the younger brother?

ANSWER: 20
 
Let the age of younger brother be x years. Hence, the age of the elder brother will be (x + 8) years.
12 years ago, the younger brother was (x – 12) years and the elder brother was (x-4) years of age.
(x – 4) = 2*(x – 12)
x – 4 = 2x – 24
x = 20 years
