Q.  The number 243 has been divided into three parts in such a way that one third of the first part, fourth of the second part and half of the third part are equal. Determine the largest part.

It is given that 243 has been divided into 3 numbers x y and z for instance.

Second condition mentioned in the question is:

=> x/3 = y/4 =z/2

Clearly the biggest number is y. So let us solve w.r.t. y.

=> x = 3y/4

=> x =3z/2

=> z = y/2

=> x+y+z = 243

=> y/2 + 3y/4 + y = 243

9y/4 = 243

=> 243*4/9

=> 108
