ANSWER: 14
 
Let the numbers be x and (26 – x) .
Therefore,
x (26 – x) = 168
x2 – 26x + 168 = 0
(x – 14) (x – 12) = 0
x = 14 or x = 12
So, the numbers are 14 and 12.
