    • Moment of resistance of worm against bending and torsion is determined by diametral quotient. Worm has large diameter if value of diametral quotient is large and hence strength and rigidity of worm gear increases.

    • Efficiency of worm gear pair decreases due to large diametral quotient.

    • Worm shaft becomes weaker if small value of diametral quotient is used.

    • If diametral quotient of small value is used efficiency of worm gear pair increases due to larger lead angle. Diametral quotient between 6 and 15 is used in practice.
