    The rate of change of angular momentum is called as torque. In reaction turbine, when water exerts a torque on the runner, the reaction is a change in angular momentum of the water. The guide vanes give angular momentum to the water. Therefore the reaction turbine works on the principle of impulse and reaction, it follows the law of angular momentum.

    Impulse turbine works on the principle of impulse and therefore it follows impulse momentum equation.
