Many news agencies emerged in most of the European countries in the mid 19th century. The first news agencies to reach the global market were the Havas in France, Wolff in Germany and Reuters in UK. They sold cartel news to a national agency on an exclusive basis. Later on, the national agencies delivered the news cartel to a global agency either for free or for a nominal price.
