What is $FLEX$ and $PROFILES$? Where are they used?

$FLEX$ is used to get a value used in the previous value set. It is usually used to retrieve the Flex value contained in an AOL value set or object. $PROFILES$ is used to get the value for that profile option. It’s used to get values of various environment variables related to current applications environment.
