Answer

when their son was born;
the avg age of father and son (A1) = (40+0)/2 = 20
the avg age of mother and son (A2) = (30+0)/2 = 15

As one year passes on, their averages will also increases by one.

after some no. of years (say t), A1 = 1.25*A2
ie., 20+t = 1.25(15+t)
0.25t = 20-18.75
t = 1.25/0.25
t=5
The no. of years after their son was born = 5
the present age of father = 40 + 5 = 45
