Boys err; they should not be hanged for rape

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav gave a shocking statement on the rape issue. He opposed the new anti rape law. Also he added that men do make mistakes and therefore it is not fair to hang the rape accused. The statement paved way for another controversial discussion in the country. The youth of today are strongly criticizing Mulayam Singh on social media. What is your view? Do you think that buys should not be hanged for rape?

Yes

• As per Mulayam Singh boys do make mistakes and should not be hanged, he is partially right. They should not be hanged but should be given more severe punishment publicly. They should understand the pain of victim.

• Instead of hanging, the accused should be given the punishment of castration. Let him suffer for his entire life.

• Men accused in rape cases need psychological treatment as they are mentally ill. They should be sent to the reformatories for treatment.

• The rape acts are sometimes misused by people and even the rape allegations can be used for black mailing.

• Accused should not be hanged as the decision once taken cannot be reversed. If there is a slightest probability that he was innocent then he cannot be brought back. No innocent soul should be punished.

• Death penalty can have a reverse effect as the criminals will then go to any extent and will repeat the crimes when they know that ultimately they are going to be hanged.

No

• In the country, rape cases are popping out like everyday news. This has to be stopped and it is possible only when government comes up with strict laws.

• Remember the molestation case of Ruchika Lal who was molested by the police chief. The accused is still roaming openly till date and the victim committed suicide 3 years after the incident.

• There are many countries like Arab countries where such incidents don’t happen. They have strict laws and death penalty for the accused.

• Nirbhaya had experienced death when she was alive. How can government even think of leaving them alive? Such mentally sick people should be hanged. It’s a right decision taken by Indian system.

• Remember Mahabharata, Draupadi was not raped but the humiliation of Draupadi resulted in the end of Duryodhana. When our culture and history supports it, then how can we deny it?

• If culprits are not hanged they will commit more serious crimes. Even society will get a wrong message and people will be encouraged to commit more and more rape acts.

Conclusion

If boys make a mistake by committing the act of rape, then girls should make a mistake of killing them in open or simply by castrating the accused or giving him some severe form of punishment publicly that should cross all the levels of tortures. Even girls have a right to make mistake. We agree Mulayam Singh that accused should not be hanged, just allow the public to take care of such sick people.

  • Very true, boys should not be hanged for rape, they should be punished more cruelly, very similar to the trauma that they create for the girl and their family. These rapist definitely deserve a severe punishment than a simple death penalty by hanging.

With an incidence of rape, the girl gets traumatised physically, mentally, emotionally and psychologically. Just a death penalty doesn’t suffice to overcome all this pain. Despite this, the girl is the one who is blamed in the society. Though the boys commit the crime, still the social stigma gets attached to the girls only.

Situation should change and the rapist should be tortured similarly as the girls face throughout their life following the incidence. Keeping the accused in jail or penalising by hanging is like feeding them and killing them in a second’s time. These cruel animals need to be publically punished, so that no one else even dream of committing such an offense.
