Reservation is a political tool rather than being an empowerment tool
Reservations in India are a common practice. It was soon started after independence. Often people argue that it is one of the much needed tools to uplift the minor and backward communities of the country. Even the practice has been acclaimed worldwide. However, there are instance when it feels that Reservation is not an empowerment tool but more of a political tool. What are your arguments on the topic?
Political Tool
• Politicians like to use the decisive playing card of lifting the backward and minor communities to fill their vote banks.
• Where are the so called political leaders who support the minor and backward communities when the girls in UP are attacked, raped and killed.
• Political leaders consider the reservation system as part of social justice that has failed to deliver any benefits in the last so many years of independence.
• What are politicians getting from the reservations? Just the votes and a tool to demean the other party. It is ultimately affecting the education quality of country.
• Politicians are unable to see above their selfish interests. They are playing the crude politics on the name of reservation and regionalism at the cost of nation’s progress.
• Reservation divides the people into two different sectors privilege and under-privilege and the politicians take the advantage of both the sector as per the requirement of time.
Empowerment Tool
• It is the way to reduce the gap between the haves and haves not, and reduce the poverty.
• Reservation is the only way through which the people from backward class get their rights for education.
• It is the higher society that is always ready to utilize the minorities group and they need the backing of government to tackle the situations.
• Women reservation in various sectors is the way to encourage women to come ahead and be a part of the development process.
• When there is no other way to create equal opportunities, the reservation system has to be used to create the extra opportunities for the suppressed sectors.
Conclusion
Reservation is an important system in some of the areas but it necessarily doesn’t justify the system in all the cases. These days it has become another tool of corruption that has got the legal support of the government and the so called political parties. It is nothing but a legal backdoor in the various sectors including job and education where the ultimate beneficiaries are the political parties and no one else.

- In my point of view it is simply both an empowerment tool and a political tool like a coin has two sides.
but in case of the coin both sides has its value in this case the other side which benefits the politicians is mitigating the value of reservation.
Taking it as an empowerment tool if we use reservation to improve the status of women of our society, living status of the poor,or the part of the society who couldnot progress due to lack of anything then providing reservation in that area only where is its requrement makes it an empowerment tool,

- Reservation is a good policy only if it is implemented in correct way. Earlier the deprived classes needed this implementation as the upper caste were so dominating that it restricted there entry and humiliated them a lot. So it was a right step
.
But it was never implemented for indefinite time period and its criteria should be modified with time so that it includes poor people regardless of their caste or gender. Prime concern should be social status of the candidate, as many people cannot reach the resources due to lack of money.
It would help in uplifting the society and then politician wont be able to divide and play the dirty politics.
But in current scenario reservation has become a lucrative item in manifesto of politicians.They are not thinking what will benefit the society they just use the laws and policies for their own benefit.

- Political Parties
Their are many examples of reservations which are done to gain votes but what is the result of that?. People with low potential and skills are getting jobs/education of high potential and skills. - Reservation is just a criterion to show a sect or group at a lower grade in comparison to others. Creating reservation schemes is a political show off which can be better called a political stunt to increase the vote bank. Politicians frame the reservation as a lucrative manifesto to attract the complete segment of voters into their followers.
Reservation has not yield the results as projected for any of the groups. Be it the women reservation or for any other group, nothing has been as fruitful to the citizens as portrayed on the election manifestos or expressed by the politicians in their speeches.
Empowerment comes by social awareness, spreading education, removing ignorance and preaching the word of strength to the group. Reservation only leads to the loss of the potential candidates from winning the race, and hence is the brain drain. Good brains search for an appropriate settlement as they don’t receive the respect and dignity for their true talents.
Reservation and politics are going hand-in-hand without any clear aim or mission for the upliftment of the economy of the country. A blinded path can never be an empowerment tool. Hence, reservation is just a playing tool for the politicians.
