Flexible working hours can help in improving the overall productivity and economy.

Working hours have a good role to play in determining the production output for any environment. This productivity is the basis for evaluating the economy of the country. In India, we used to have a fixed 9AM to 6PM shift. This slowly transformed in to the early morning and late night shifts with the lucrative offers of over-time. With the emergence of MNCs, the work culture underwent a huge revolution and we have landed in to the era of rotational shifts, where the work keeps continuing round the clock. Now, with such a drastic transition in the working environment, the flexible working and work from home culture is checking its way in. let us discuss the merits and demerits of the flexible working hours with respect to the productivity and economy.

  • Indian work culture has changed tremendously. Now the job doesn’t mean the conventional office hours of 9 am to 5 pm. Indians are working in a competitive environment where there are no fixed work timings. The multinational companies work according to the requirements of different time zones. In such a scenario, it becomes imperative for employees to opt for flexible working hours.

The flexing working hours are no longer an option but have turned into a requirement. Employees have to look after their family as well as their job responsibilities. In the rush to handle both the roles, the mistakes are bound to happen. Such mistakes can have an adverse impact on the performance of the employees. So, if the employers really want their employees to perform well, they have to give them the flexibility of choosing the work timings. Telecommuting has already become a part of many organizations.

Many countries are seriously considering making the option as a compulsory law. It can be a progressive law that would allow the employees to take care of the psychological problems. They can handle the different situations well. In such a case, they will be entirely responsible for their performance. Employers will have every right to reward or punish such employees.

The flexible working hours can prove as one of the most convenient way to boost the employees’ morale. Ultimately, the end benefit will reach to the employers.
