  • Congress opposed the appointment of Prof Sudarshan Rao as the Chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research by terming it as an attempt by BJP to communalise history for its political ends. It has revived the old bitter debate between Marxists and saffron historians. Incidentally, the institution was once co-habited by left and right wing historians.
A senior right-wing social scientist from Delhi University admits, "It is a new low. Prof. Rao is not a professional historian. He relies only on ancient Hindu texts."
