Sari or salwar-suit during UPSC personality test

Sari or salwar-suit during UPSC personality test

My friends and family have been advising me to wear a sari for the interview. I am honestly not comfortable wearing a sari and I fear that the discomfort might show on me. Can I wear a salwar-suit instead?

Answer:
This question has often been raised by female candidates about the preferable attire for the interview. Sari is definitely not an obligation. It is preferred my most ladies for it dignified look and aesthetically decent appeal. The same applies for men. It is not at all obligatory that they wear a suit or formal shirt-tie-trouser. In the scorching heat of Delhi in the month of April-May, you do not want to sweat while waiting hours for the interview in something that is uncomfortable to you.

Your socio-economic background and regional perspective can be considered and you are free to wear a well ironed cotton salwar-suit that has a look of professionalism in it. Always wear according to the occasion and this is one such occasion that needs you to dress up in a dignified manner. Being comfortable and confident is more important than following trends set by others. Good luck!
