It is possible that a valid GATE score will help you secure a private company job but only if your credentials are good as well and the gate score is very high. Especially for private companies, your GATE score is not going to matter much. Some companies where you can hope for a positive response on the basis of GATE scores are BHEL, SAIL, NTPC, HPCL, EIL, ECIL, etc.
