Applied Computational Mechanics - Specialisation for Mechanical Engineers.

Applied Computational Mechanics - Specialisation for Mechanical Engineers.

What is computational mechanics?

Computational Mechanics changed the way Classical Theoretical and Applied Mechanics is applied to science and technology. It is concerned with the stimulation of advanced engineering problems using the modeling techniques and case studies in investigation. The most important branch of computational mechanics is Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM).

What is the scope of the course?

The course is used everywhere from the study of tectonic plates to the design of ships and aircrafts. In India, students pursuing this course are mostly placed in BHEL, ISRO, Ashok Leyland, TCS, Honeywell, etc.

Which are the top colleges that provide this course in India?

* IIT Madras
* IIT Delhi
* Indian Institute of Science

What is the duration of the course?

Masters in Applied Computational Mechanics is a two year course which is divided into four semesters.

What is the required eligibility for a candidate to apply for this course?

The candidate should have passed BE (Bachelor's in Engineering) with a good score. A great score in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is necessary to apply for this course. Anyone with a love for mechanics and a flair for solving mechanics oriented problems, can apply. In IIT Madras, research students from Science stream are also eligible.

Is this course available abroad? If so, which are the top universities?

Yes, the course is also available in foreign universities. The top universities to pursue this course are :

* TUM University in Germany
*University of Stuttgart
* MIT ( Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
* University of Cambridge
* Harvard University
* NUS (National University of Singapore)
* Imperial College London
* Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden

What is the eligibility for students to pursue the course abroad?

The student must have a BE degree with an above average percentage of marks. Indian candidates must pass the GATE exam to apply for this course abroad. Most of the universities also require the candidates to clear the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exams.

If a candidate has pursued his previous degree in English, is TOEFL necessary?

No, in such cases the TOEFL can be replaced by an original certificate provided by their university.

What is the qualification needed to pursue this course at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt?

The candidate should have completed BE with 210 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulative System). They should have good fluency in English and one year of experience after academic degree.

TUM is one of the most popular universities abroad that provide this course. What is the procedure over here?

The course is provided in English and begins in mid-October. They provide internships at BMW, Siemens and other big companies. But it is not compulsory for the students to take up an internship. Instead of tuition fee, they take 52 EUR as student union fees. A minimum score in TOEFL and IELTS is required. For Indians, a good GATE score is required in papers like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science.
