Are you speaking to some other companies? Or how is your job search going on?

Are you speaking to some other companies? Or how is your job search going on?

This question gives you an opportunity to let the interviewer know that other companies are also interested in hiring you and gives you leverage while negotiating the salary.
You can say, Yes, I am in the final round of discussion with two other companies. Approach the interviewer as a “Problem Solver” and not as a “Job Beggar”.

  • This is as simple as it it sounds. The key is to be honest. You do not have to sound low while answering this, no matter what, so maintain your composure and answer in good spirit. If you are speaking to multiple companies, do tell them so and vice versa.

The purpose behind this question is to know if you are easily available or they would have to offer your a better salary to lure you in. You can consider that they are interested in hiring you when they ask you this question. If your answer is a "yes" they will consider the market rate and offer you a better package and if they know that they are your only choice at the moment, they would be more than happy to know that you would be available easily, which is a good thing for you.
