Civil Engineer vs Engineering Technician

What is the difference between a Civil Engineer and an Engineering Technician?


1. Engineering Technician requires 2 year associate degree whereas civil engineering requires 4 year graduation course B.E/B.Tech from a reputed college or university to qualify.

2. Engineering technician can be qualified for a job with no formal training whereas civil engineers need to be properly trained before getting placements in industries around. Civil engineers need to do internships as per the industry standard to sit for the placements at college level.

3. Engineering technician is practically oriented that includes computer aided drafting (CAD), doing administrative tasks such as preparing documents and plans, constructing documents, estimating budget and cost of the projects, scheduling the meetings and finishing up of documents, etc. whereas, civil engineer provides input in terms of creativeness, designing the concept, as a developer and as a formulator with the knowledge of new technologies.

4. Engineering technicians are required to draft plans and check the quality of the plan whereas civil engineers works as a project manager and ensures that the complete development of a project go smoothly by providing timely inputs to it.
