ELGI manufactures air compressors and automobile service station equipment. ELGI sells its products in various sectors like, mining, transport, pharmaceuticals, power, oil, railways, chemicals, textiles, printing, paper, electronics and telecommunications, medical, food and beverages and plastics. ELGI has 2 of its manufactures units in Coimbatore.

It is observed that the selection procedure of ELGI consists of 2 and at times 3 stages, beginning with a written test followed by an HR round of interview and a Group Discussion Round which is optional.

The written test section consists of question based on technical, verbal and non - verbal reasoning and aptitude questions. The main motive of conducting this round is to analyse the problem solving skills and time management skills of the candidate. The written test is further divided into two sections, often named as Set I and Set II. Set I consists of 42 compulsory questions which are usually multiple choice objective questions. Set II consists of 10 compulsory questions. The questions in this section are a mix of objective and subjective questions.

The second round is the HR interview round. The main motive of this round is to analyse the communication and decision making skills of the candidate. The HR round focusses on details mentioned by you on the CV, personal details other than that mentioned in your CV, educational background and work projects. Some of the common questions asked in the HR interview round are:

• Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses.

• Discuss about yourself other than the details mentioned in your CV.

• What qualities do you possess for which we should hire you?

• Why did you choose ELGI only for your career?

• What do you think, how will you perform under high stress and immense pressure situations?

• What do you know about our company?

The last and the optional round is that of Group Discussion. It is on the management’s discretion that this round takes place. The main motive of this round is to judge the speaking skills and listening ability of the candidate. The topics commonly discussed in this round are the topics which are in the news and general knowledge topics as well.

To get to the top or get selected in any interview successfully, there are certain tips which you should keep in mind and they are, firstly dress formally, this is one of the most important points to be kept in mind. The way you dress and present yourself leaves an impression on the mind of the interviewer and that is what you are supposed to do, create a good and positive impression in the mind of the interviewer. Second important is to be well prepared for your interview, be thorough with the details of the company and subject details. There should be no discrepancy in the data mentioned by you in the CV and what you say. Thirdly be confident while answering the questions and keep in mind your body postures; as body postures convey a lot of messages to the interviewer. These are the certain tips if you keep in mind you can succeed in any of the interview.
