From where can I get a degree in Library Science?

To be eligible to get a degree in library science, the candidate should be a Bachelors degree holder from a recognized university. The, Bachelor in Library Science also known as B.Lib or B.Lib.Sc., despite its name is a postgraduate degree, leading to ambiguity because of its eligibility criteria. Some of the institutes offering the course are:

- National Institute of Science Communication and Information Centre (NISCAIR) runs short term training programs and onsite training programs which are available for Library and Information Science students, candidates pursuing research and development (research fellow or research associate) and mid and senior level managers.

- National Science Library of Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre (INSDOC), a unit of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, also offers full time training course in the discipline.

- B.Lib can also be pursued through distance learning. Some of the universities offering distance learning courses are:
- Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu
- School of Sciences (SOSS), Indira Gandhi National Open University
- Nalanda Open University
- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University

- Universities like Jamia Milia Islamia, Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University, Andhra University, Mumbai University and Kurukshetra University, Haryana also offer degree courses in Library Science.

- Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Institute of Journalism, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh also offer Bachelor in Library Science (Hons) for candidates who are 10+2 or equivalent. The duration of the course is 3 years.

- There are many universities offering Master in Library Science, M.Lib. The candidate should be a B.Lib in order to pursue the course. IGNOU, Delhi University and Sir Dorabji Tata Memorial Library , Tata Institute of Social Sciences offer two year program in Master of Library and Information Science.
