Should APJ Abdul Kalam Be Featured On Currency Notes?

Two days after former President APJ Abdul Kalam was laid to rest, the social media became active with the demand of having pictures of ‘People’s President’ on currency notes. Even the sample pictures of Dr. Kalam on the notes went viral on the internet. Previously, the debate on who should be featured on currency note was fumed after RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan last year stated that no one but only Mahatma Gandhi should be featured on currency notes. What is your view? Should APJ Abdul Kalam Be Featured On Currency Notes?

Yes

- APJ Abdul Kalam has positively affected the lives of many people. It was even the case with Mahatma Gandhi. However, Mahatma Gandhi has got support of only the people who believe in non-violence. This kind of categorization of followers is not there in case of Dr. Kalam.

- There is no doubt that Mahatma Gandhi has ruled the hearts of people for years. However, the generation of today fails to connect with him. In such a case, there is a need of change, a need of a face that can connect with today’s generation.

- Dr. Kalam fits as an ideal face symbolizing national identity, He is reckoned as a great scientist, an impressive leader and a youth icon.

- There are many instances which highlight the crystal clear thoughts of Dr. Kalam. He was against putting the broken glasses on the building walls as it can hurt birds. Such a person with a consideration for everyone should be featured on currency notes.

- There is a reason why only Dr. Kalam is known as People’s President. He was able to connect with everyone whether it is youth, children or old people.

No

- The currency notes symbolize national identity and Mahatma Gandhi is the right person to fit in this place. He is not only a popular face in India but is also known for his great deeds on international platform.

- In any case, the basic fact that it was Mahatma Gandhi who played a major role in bringing independence to India cannot be ignored. A free country can only have presidents.

- India is a very sensitive nation especially when something is related to its history, traditions or religions. The matter of change of face on currency notes will only result in political chaos in the nation.

- The currency notes should not have the face of any leader. Instead there should be some other logo or message imprinted on it that can really make a difference to people’s lives.

- Paying tribute to India’s father of the nation on his death, the renowned scientist Albert Einstein quoted, "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a man as this walked the earth in flesh and blood." There were many international leaders who were big followers of Mahatma Gandhi.

- Today at least youngsters know Mahatma Gandhi and his deeds. Removing him from currency notes will work as a measure to force people forget his contribution in making India free and learn from his ideology.

Conclusion

It is not necessary that to bring in the new you have to completely replace the old. There can always be a mid way. The pictures of both Mahatma Gandhi as well Dr. Kalam can be featured on the currency notes.

If that can happen, what the controversy is all about? Both the leaders have significantly contributed to the development of nation. So, the replacement factor should not be considered.

At the same time, it is also true that the younger generation connects with Dr. Kalam, and it is the first time the citizens are demanding for a change. In such a scenario, a mid-way can be figured out.

  • A LINE STARTS FROM A POINT!
well...its human nature to think, discuss...debate on current sensations...But we'll soon be deviated from this matter to something else now or then...If we really want to make a change we must Start from ourselves. We must follow their principles rather than celebrating them just for a name sake.
Celebrate independence day on 15 Aug... curtail freedom of women ,children ,poor...
Celebrate teachers day...Comment on their back later...
Talk about cleanliness of foreign countries...Spit, dump dirt on our road...
Complain on gov... Sell your vote for 100s...
Talk abt how to tackle corruption...Never like to stand in a Queue...
Inspite of that, We must behave, train, educate ourselves to become not a perfect citizen but a mere CITIZEN at least... that's when our Nethaji, Punjab's tiger, Babu ji, People's president will be paid a true honored Homage...
If u really insist on changing the face on currencies... Why don't we have a special note (For instance 200Rs note...haha) for featuring our beloved leaders... I think we must at least experiment on that...haaa

  • when a sign of RBI GOVERNOR who is unknown and even unloved by the people is featured on the note why cant a peoples president be . but seeing the other side of coin is that today may politics may agree to feature tomorrow they may demand the pic of their own ruler for e.g. after some years BJP may demand that MR.MODI was PRADHAN SEVAK for the people so now after adul kalam ji next photo may be of MR.MODI with the tag line "ACHHE DIN KE ACCHE PRADHAN"such nuisance can continue if once change is made ...thus with a bitter heart i reject the proposal of featuring the pic on note though i respect and love adul kalam ji but if such thing happened i think mr kalam soul may not get peace..

  • yes.of course Dr.APJ Abdul kalam is a great scientist,he is known as the people's president but Gandhiji is the father of our nation.
Dr.kalam never have agreed for this if he was alive. If we really wanna do something in remembrance of him we have many alternatives.we can start even social service in his name which would be a great tribute to him.

  • I think there should be no change on currency note because mahatma gandhi was the father of india. No one can take his place. The work of abdul kalam is also great but if we feature him on note then it will create an contraversy that is why not lokmanya tilak, subhashchandra bos, bhagatsingh, sardar patel, pandit nehru. And if we have a respect about them in our mind there is no requirement to do all such things. Kalam hadnt said that there should be a photo of them on currency note. Their only wish was that to follow their thoughts.

  • Hello friends after a huge discussion with my friends about this we conclude that thing should remain same.First a fall we cannot compare the contribution of both the leaders.APJ Abdul kalam being a great scientist, impressive leader and motivational to the youth always be respected but mahatma gandhi contribution can also be not fogerable
If we think about one different way that most of the indain population of are poor their children do not go to school then they do not know the history of gandhi ji the only way to know about such great leader is the pic of gandhi ji on the currency.Only due to this pic each and every indian know gandhi ji if we replace than contribution of this great patriotism will not be known by many people

  • I think no , if feature APJ Abdul Kalam on Currency Notes because we feel connected to him or respect him . That should not correct because after him if we feel connected any one else like Mr. Modi or some one else than we change are Currency Notes again . if we do this type of thing it may effect are economy that not good for developing country like India. Our country is second in agricultural farming but still under poverty .
  • RE: Should APJ Abdul Kalam Be Featured On Currency Notes? -Vishnu (08/12/15)
  • No.No such things should be done. It's a fact that Dr.Kalam inspired millions of people in India and there are always other ways to honor him like working towards a developed India. If the government decides to use Dr.Kalams picture on the currency notes soon all the political and communal parties will demand their leaders be given the same honor. And India will have currency notes with a lot of peoples picture on it. Think of what its going to do to the economy of this country. The currency of this country is well established and any sudden changes to it will crumble the economy. India has seen many great minds who inspired and guided us and in cases gave their life for the mother nation. India is a sensitive country with people of different cultures and religions. We should remember this fact before we go on and make a decision that will impact the lives of millions.

  • well , a very fascinating toipc to discuss. I think that as per Dr. kalam ideology , he would have never wanted this to be done. He was a very simple living man indeed inspiring for all of us. Those who are saying that it is justified to replace him with ganghiji , would be thinking that coming generations will be aware of such a great person but friends you are actually branding him in this way. Rather Gandhiji is imprinted on our currency notes , that doesn't mean that we don't know other freedom fighters like S.C BOSE,etc.
So actually what is needed that ...this generation, which is actually inspired or ready to accept his ideas & lifestyle, should take responsibility to let this person alive in our upcoming generations.
Haa ...for people thinking there should be done something on behalf of nation & putting his identity on currency notes, as stated above , we cannot replace him...but merge his image with gandhiji in a better way.

  • In this world nothg is like a whole time existance.Somthg is made means deffinatly it will be change..aftr few days,or yrs..
so its a right time to chg the feature on currency notes.Bcz Dr kalam is a great person. He create many thing to develoment of our nation.
Most important thg is that if we chg the feature and put kalam pic insted of gandhi then our young generation is very much interstd to knw the kalam future and they try to follow his rule and commitment.
which will help us to be make a good Indian and also helps to create nxt kalam.

  • As far as my view is consult to replace the picture of the father of our nation will mean that Dr Kalam was a big leader then Mahatma Gandhi. but what in reality is both of them are in parallel. Though Dr Kalam has inspired millions of hearts including foreigners but replacing Mahatma Gandhi seems to effect the society adversely. So what i feel is Dr Kalam's face can be share with Gandhiji in the Indian currency to give a meticulous respect to a philanthropist person named Dr Kalam.
  • RE: Should APJ Abdul Kalam Be Featured On Currency Notes? -Anshuman shukla (08/11/15)
  • Indeed Dr Kalam was "The People's President" .He influenced many people of his generation and so was Mahatma Gandhi.
But replacementis is not a solution,we would rather give respect to Dr Kalam by other means without replacing Gandhiji like in our National Anthem introducing his name or in the National Flag introducing symbol of Missile Man or naming a state or capital in the name of Dr Kalam.
  • RE: Should APJ Abdul Kalam Be Featured On Currency Notes? -Meera (08/11/15)
  • Yes, Dr APJ Kalam should be next featured on the currency note. It does not imply that we are disrespecting the father of or nation. Kalam has always been a true source of inspiration for millions of youth in India as well as across the globe. He is better known as the "missile man of India" among his followers. May be we can atleast share his image with the gandhiji on our currency notes. It would be a huge respect given to such a wonderful personality of our nation.
  • RE: Should APJ Abdul Kalam Be Featured On Currency Notes? -Deepa Kaushik (08/11/15)
  • There are two aspects of this discussion, the first being whether the person under discussion deserves such a great honourl; and secondly, whether there is any necessity to feature anyone else other than Mahatma Gandhi on the Indian currency notes. It is very much obvious that Kalam is very very deserving to be featured on our currency notes. But, we definitely need to discuss the requirement of this transformation.

We are living in a country where people never leave any scope of agitations and violence with any associated transformation. When we discuss Kalam to be featured on the currency, it directly means replacing Mahatma Gandhi which would call for a huge agitation across the country. People would start conceptualising this transformation in different way according to their own interpretations.

Again this step would arise further debates like why only Kalam and no one else? Already such a discussion rocked the country with the statement of RBI Governor last year. Why to give scope for any further arguements? There need to be some guideline or laid down document to guide us to choose the personality being featured on currency. If not, we need to form one before going ahead with any such change to be able to answer the numerous people seeking justification for the transformation.

In short, there is nothing wrong to have a great leader like Kalam on our currency notes. But, we need to justify for not featuring anyone else but only Kalam while replacing Mahatma Gandhi. And prior to that we need to have a sound reason for making such an amendment.

  • the face of any great leader shows his contribution towards our nation and the same thing is indicates by our father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and let me clearify you that by featured someone pic on the notes going to change the world then it's your blunder mistake.if you really going to featured something then accept all the good qualities of A.P.J Abdul kalam.even before dying he didn't said any time that by featuring my face over the note can change the world but despite of it he said that follow my ordinance in your life and beocme good person that will going to change our world automatically .so in my point of view no
