What are the various responsibilities of a mining engineer?

I want to know the various responsibilities of a mining engineer.

As we know mining is an activity which related to extraction of non-metallic, metal ores of all kinds and solid fuels and energy sources. Mining engineers handle various mining operations starting from exploration and discovery to final land restoration and rehabilitation. They are basically responsible for the discovery of natural reserves of minerals, the most important one being petroleum and other useful natural resources while working side by side with geologists. Safe extraction of these resources be it coal, petroleum, metallic or no-metallic minerals from under the earth by planning and designing of shafts or quarries is again the responsibility of an mining engineer. Mining engineer is required to use his knowledge that he has in terms of scientific theory, engineering fundamentals and improved technology to recover natural resources. They are engaged in finding, extracting and developing coal, metals and minerals for the manufacturing of utility industries.

Few mining engineers collaborate with geologists and metallurgical engineers to locate and evaluate new ore deposits. Other mining engineers design and supervise construction of open pits and underground mines. Mining engineers also determine the cost for the extraction process. Environment safety and also human safety is an additional and important responsibility that a mining engineer needs to take up. Survey of the mining sites, exploration of the sites for mineral and oil deposits, designing and development of the life support system for underground mines, researching and designing most cost effective mining equipments and mineral extraction technologies are some of the many responsibilities that comes with the post of a mining engineer.
