Would you take up this job if we offered it to you?

Would you take up this job if we offered it to you?

Again there are two ways to handle this question.

First Way: If you have built up a good rapport with the interviewer by now you can ask a more direct question, Are you offering it to me? (with a smile and right body language). If they say “Yes”, you can say that off course, based on what we have discussed till now I am enthusiastic in taking up this position. How soon would you be able to get me a written offer?

Second Way: Alternatively you can say, based on what we have discussed till now, I will be happy to take up this position but there are still certain things that need to be discussed.

  • There is no answering this question in a doubtful manner. The reason why you are sitting there is because you wanted that job and now they are talking of giving it to you. You can say yes but if you are doubtful and have questions for them before taking the big decision, now is the time to mention that. They probably find you apt for the position and you are going to get the job but they are asking this question to make sure that you would be willing to join them instead of focusing on other options. They have chosen candidates who are second options to them after your.

They simply want to know that your priority lies with them and that they are your first choice too.

You just don't want the job but you also want the job accompanied by a good salary. If your answer shows that you are desperate for the job, the salary offered will be according to that. The best way is to tell that though you are very much interested in the position, it is too early and that you would like to consider everything in detail before taking the leap.
