Key Points

What registration mistakes should you avoid for TCS NQT?

  • Register under "IT", not "BPS", and always click "Apply For Drive".
  • Three wrong OTPs lock your account for 4 hours, so don't leave registration to the last day.
  • Convert CGPA to percentage using TCS's formula: 10 × CGPA.
  • Keep your photo and original documents ready, and never pay anyone for a TCS job.

TCS NQT Registration: 7 Mistakes That Can Quietly Cost You the Test

You prepare for weeks. You practise aptitude every day. And then you miss the test because of one small mistake on the registration portal.

Sounds unbelievable? It happens more often than you think.

TCS has answered these issues in the FAQs on its official hiring page. Here are seven mistakes you must avoid when you register through the TCS NextStep portal.

Note: Dates and instructions can change from one hiring drive to the next. Always read the latest official TCS NQT hiring page before you apply.

1. Registering Under BPS Instead of IT

TCS asks candidates to create their profile under the "IT" category. If you register under "BPS" by mistake, you may not get the option to apply for the drive. In that case, TCS asks you to write to tcsbps.support@tcs.com to delete the BPS profile, and then create a new one under IT.

2. Not Clicking "Apply For Drive"

This is the biggest one. Registering on the portal is not enough. TCS clearly says that if you don't click "Apply For Drive", you will not be considered for the hiring process. Even if you already have a CT/DT reference number from earlier, you must log in and click it again for the new drive.

After that, your status should show "Applied for Drive". Don't wait for a confirmation email; TCS says you won't get one.

3. Getting Locked Out by Wrong OTPs

After 3 wrong OTP attempts, your account is locked for 4 hours. After that, you get 2 more attempts. Get it wrong again, and you can log in only the next day.

TCS recommends using a desktop or laptop. So don't try to register in a hurry on the last day.

4. Entering CGPA Instead of Percentage

The application form has only one field for marks. If your college uses CGPA, TCS asks you to convert it into a percentage using:

Percentage = 10 × CGPA

For example, a CGPA of 7.2 becomes 72%.

5. Filling Details Carelessly

TCS says you can change only limited fields in your profile later. Some details can't be edited at all. For example, if you can't edit whether your course was full-time or part-time, you have to email ilp.support@tcs.com to get your profile deleted. Then you create it again with the same email ID.

Why go through all that? Fill everything carefully the first time.

6. Uploading the Wrong Photo

TCS says the application form is filled after the test results are declared, and the photo rules are strict:

Maximum size 200 KB, in JPG or JPEG. Formal attire with a white background, but avoid white clothes with a white background. Face and shoulders clearly visible, with both ears visible. No selfies or informal photos.

Get a proper photo ready now, so you aren't searching for one later.

7. Not Keeping Your Documents Ready

If you are shortlisted, you need the originals of all your marksheets (10th, 12th, diploma if any, UG and PG if any) up to the latest semester, plus degree certificates. Experienced candidates also need experience or relieving letters showing joining and last working dates.

TCS checks eligibility at every stage, and any mismatch can lead to disqualification. So make sure what you fill in the form matches your marksheets exactly.

Before You Click Submit

  • Category selected is IT
  • Name, date of birth and marks match your documents
  • CGPA converted using 10 × CGPA
  • "Apply For Drive" clicked, and the status shows "Applied for Drive"
  • Photo and original documents ready

One More Thing

Test-related communication comes from TCS's test partner, TCS iON. And TCS says clearly that it never asks for money and never sends job offers from Gmail, Yahoo or similar email IDs.

Need help? TCS's helpdesk is ilp.support@tcs.com, toll-free 1800 209 3111. For a suspicious job offer, TCS's Recruitment Fraud Alert page gives careers@tcs.com.

Preparing for the test is half the job.

Registering correctly is the other half.
