Observation means to see things with a certain purpose. There are two types of observation – participatory and non participatory. Participatory observation is the most important type of the fieldwork. It is also known as the naturalistic study. The researchers study about a particular group by being a part of that group. It helps them to establish a strong relation among the group members and also provides an accurate data. Such studies may produce qualitative or quantitative data. In case of the non participatory observation, the researchers do not become a part of the group that they are studying. They observe the behavior of the group by staying away from them. The interpretations are more or less objective as there is less interaction between the researcher and the group.
