Co-planer concurrent forces: In this system, the concurrent forces acting on a body lie in a same plane. It consists of two or more forces, whose line of action intersect at a common point.

This system consists of two equilibrium conditions,

    1) Σ Fx = 0
    2) Σ Fy = 0

As both Σ Fx and Σ Fy is zero, resultant is also zero.

Co-planer non-concurrent forces: In this system, the forces do not pass through a common point but lie in a same plane.

This system consists of three equilibrium conditions,

    1) Σ Fx = 0
    2) Σ Fy = 0
    3) Σ M = 0
