    - Green sand can be defined as the sand in its natural or moist state.

    - It is a composition of silica, clay, bentonite, coal dust and water with their appropriate percentage.

    - The green sand consists of silica at its highest proportion of up to 75%. This higher percentage of silica in green sand helps in making sand refractory. Cohesiveness of sand gets destroyed with excess of silica.

    - Clay contents present in green sand are about 8 to 10% and remaining sand consists of 2 to 5% of bentonite, 5 to 10% of coal dust and 7 to 8% of water.
