From the operation point of view, E-MOSFET operates in an ohmic and cut-off regions for switching-based applications whereas it operates only in saturation region for the purpose of amplification.

This operational behavior of E-MOSFET is inverse to that of BJT. This is so because BJT operates only in an active region so that the transistor (BJT) can act as an amplifier. But, when the applications are switching-oriented, then BJT exhibits its tendency to operate in saturation and cut-off regions.
