The time taken by the equipment for repairing purpose at the maintainability phase is known as 'Down-time'. It is mainly dependent on the design and installation factors.

Design factor is associated with the module size, inspection interval as well as the degree of automation. Installation factor is concerned with the environmental conditions.

Maintainability phase deals with the probability that the failed equipment gets repaired within specific time. This time is nothing but the downtime.

Hence, designing and installation of equipments take place by considering the maintenance effect over them.
