    - Flat belts have rectangular cross-section and the surface of pulley on which the belt passes is also flat.

    - These belts are used when the distance between two pulleys is long but are used for transmitting power at low speeds.

    - These belts undergo more slippage because these belts do not track in the mating grooves as V belts do, and have low efficiency. These belts are used in floor mills, lathe machines, etc
