Goan artist Francis Newton Souza’s epic work titled Birth sold for an astounding $4 million (Rs 28 crore approx) at a Christie's sale. The previous record for the country's priciest piece of art was held by V S Gaitonde who sold for $3.7 million at Christie's debut auction in Mumbai in 2013. Birth was painted in 1955 and the painting has many subjects found in his early practice.
