LC oscillators usually operate at the high frequency range of about 200kHz to few GHz. In LC oscillators, the feedback network generally comprises inductors as well as capacitors. The functional working of LC oscillator is basically dependent on the property of a tuned circuit.

According to the property of tuned circuit, if a current pulse is applied to tuned circuit, it results into the generation of damped voltage oscillations at its output.

At its output, the amplitude of oscillations has a proportional relationship with the size of current pulse. Therefore, the decay rate is also proportionally related to the time constant.

However, the sustained nature of oscillations can also be obtained at the output, upon the application of current pulses at every alternate zero crossover point of the output waveform.
