    Given: Shear force = 60 kN, maximum allowable shear stress = 5 Mpa

    Formula: 1) Maximum allowable shear stress = (4/3) x(S/A)

    2) Area of circle = (π/4) d2

    Solution:

    Maximum allowable shear stress = (16/3) (S / πd2)

    Substituting the given values,

    5 = (16/3) (60 x 103 / πd2)

    d2 = 20371.83

    d = 142.72 mm

    Diameter of the pipe is 142.72 mm
