    Given: Withworth thread M 24 x 7 mm

    Formula:

Diameter is calculated using the formula below:

    For metric thread, diameter of best wire = (pitch / 2) x sec (60/2) = 0.577 p

    For Whitworth thread, diameter of best wire = (pitch / 2) x sec (55/2) = 0.5636 p

    Solution:

Best wire is defined as the wire which touches thread exactly on pitch point.

For given Whitworth thread, pitch = 7

    Diameter of best wire = 0.5636 p

    = 0.5636 x 7

    = 3.94 mm

Diameter of best wire for a Whitworth thread of M 24 x 7 mm size is 3.94 mm.
