    Given: Tensile load = 50 kN, width of tapered plate = 10 mm, d1 = 100 mm, d2 = 50 mm, force (P) = 50 x 103 N, E = 220 x 103 MPa

    Formula: δL = [(PL) / (d1- d2 ) w E] [loge (d1/d2)]

    δL = increase in length,

    Substituting the given values,

    δL = [(50 x 103 x 400) / (100 - 50 ) 10 x 220 x 103] [loge (100/50)]

    = 0.126 mm

    Increase in length of the rectangular tapered plate of width 10 mm = 0.126 mm
