    Given: side of square = 4 mm, force = 3000 N

    Formula: Maximum allowable shear stress (τmax) = (3/2) (τavg)

    Solution:

    max) = (3/2) (τavg) = (3/2) (F/A)

    = [3/2] x [3000/(4)2]

    = 281.25 mm2

    The maximum allowable shear stress is 281.25 mm2
