    The reasons of using unconventional or advanced machining processes are;

    1. Complex surfaces can be machined
    2. High accuracy and surface finish
    3. High strength alloys

    - In conventional machining processes, the material has to be stressed beyond yield point in order to remove the material with the help of cutting tool.

    - This is the reason why the cutting tool material required in the convention machining processes has to be harder than the workpiece material.

    - But it is difficult to carry out conventional machining for some harder materials used for aerospace applications.

    - As material gets harder, the material removal rate reduces and the machining process becomes time consuming.

    - Therefore unconventional or advanced machining processes like electro-chemical processes are used.
