    - Casting process can simply be defined as the manufacturing process in which molten metal is poured into a mould and solidification occurs.

    - Almost every finished metal product has been cast at some stage of its manufacture. There are many advantages of casting. Some are as follows:

    1. Casting process is the cheapest manufacturing process compared to other manufacturing processes.

    2. As there are no machining or workpiece handling involved in casting process, the objects of large size can be manufactured easily by casting.

    Despite of these and other advantages, the time required for casting process is large as the solidification process takes time.
